The 123's of Schedule Building

Here are a few tips to follow in the process of schedule building. It is important to get your requirements scheduled first, and then you can fill in with other electives and non-required courses.

Use a schedule grid to avoid conflicts and lay out your preferred schedule of classes.

1. Enter any required courses that meet at one time only first.
2. List required courses having sections at several times; note times that might work.
3. Be sure to note times for labs and tutorials wherever they are required.
4. Consider other courses that you would like to take. (Note: You may have to eliminate a preferred choice because of a time conflict with a required course).
   

Use two or three grids to lay out alternative schedules should your preferred times or choices be closed. Be sure to include required classes, labs, and tutorials on each grid.

Enter your results, including the 5 digit CRN numbers, on the worksheet; be sure to enter alternative choices that will work, if needed.

Course Overlap Table

Some courses at the university are considered to have overlapping content. If you have credit from courses prior to your arrival at ND, check this table to make sure you will be able to register for your courses next semester.

Scheduling Grid

When preparing for registration, it is often helpful to print out and use a scheduling grid. You can download this file and create a few sample schedules for the upcoming semester. Notice that the grid is laid out according to the typical class times here at ND.
